The weekend just gone we indulged in our second harvest of sweet peas from our garden. There are a few things that all of us enjoy very much and look forward to in the summer, and peas are amongst them. These little bright-green gems of goodness are at the top of our favourites list.
They are so popular in our family, that they hardly ever make it from the garden to the house. Our daughter eats them straight from the pod, and even George, our whippet, tends to help himself with tender pea pods straight from the plant. Which explains why we haven’t got the chance to write a post about our first pea crop of this summer, which we picked about 10 days ago. They had all gone before I got the chance to get back in the house and grab my camera. And what is a post without a nice piece of photographic evidence, right?
This time, we all picked the peas together, like we always do, but I made sure nobody ate any until I’ve taken a couple of photos. I could feel the level of excitement and impatience rising by the second, but it was worth the wait. The peas tasted better than ever, and we’ve got a lovely picture to share with everybody.
Not a bad second harvest from only 8 plants which, I am delighted to report, are busily preparing harvest no. 3.

Aren’t peas wonderful? They’re so easy to grow.
My garden is in the front of the house so I have to share my harvest with random people walking by. I barely got to eat a single blueberry off one of my bushes but I hope to get one or two off the one that’s coming ripe now.
Hi, Pamela, and sorry for the late reply.
I feel sorry for you to have strangers picking fruit and veg from your garden, I know I wouldn’t be very happy about that. Plus, it’s rude, I think. I guess we’re lucky we live on a drive and not on a normal road, so there isn’t any traffic in front of our house…Just us and the neighbours, who know better than to pick my precious crops
Fingers crossed that you get the chance to enjoy your blueberries…
We have inherited a crop of peas in our new garden and I am hopefully going to pick the first harvest today. If they make it to the kitchen we will have them with homemade cottage pie tonight.
Oh, peas and homemade cottage pie, that sounds divine. I’m a bit late with this reply, so I hope your pea harvest was what you hoped for and you enjoyed them.
